Phosphorescent ceramic products

  • I have developed a process to produce luminescent (mainly phosphorescent) ceramic products. Patent pending: DE102024102482A1, (Download as PDF file, see below).

The production of the luminescent ceramic products is based on a further development of a very old technique            that has been used since the 12th century. It is described in detail under the menu item "About the technology".

  • After illumination with light (sunlight, lamp, UV light), these ceramic products glow (even colored). They store the light and release it slowly.

  • The phosphorescent material present in the products is non-toxic.

  • It probably retains its photoluminescent property for several decades (perhaps even forever) because it is well protected against environmental influences.

  • The duration and strength of the afterglow depend on the light (how energetic) they have been exposed to and for how long. They can shine for hours.

  • The painting of the ceramic products is completely handmade (including the contours), which is why these ceramic products are unique.

  • The motifs on the ceramic products are very easy to feel because of the deeper contour lines (e.g. for blind people). They have a 3D effect.

  • The products are free of nickel, lead and other heavy metals.

These ceramic products are also special because they form durable products with the phosphorescent pigment. The pigment is a component of the glaze. The last step of the process is firing. The phosphorescent pigment is based on alkaline earth aluminate, these modern pigments were developed by a Japanese company in 1998.

My work with luminescent (mainly photoluminescent) ceramic products is supported by:
